Celebrating Our 75th Birthday in Iceland!

Rita and Linda celebrate their 75th birthdays with a memorable trip to Iceland and share the journey along the way.

A dramatic black-sand beach in Iceland at low tide, with powerful Atlantic waves crashing in the distance and sleek, wet pebbles glistening in the foreground. Towering basalt sea stacks stand against a moody, cloud-streaked sky. In the near foreground, a small arrangement of beachcombed treasures—smooth stones arranged into the number “75,” a tiny Icelandic flag, and a pair of bright, weatherproof travel notebooks—rests on the dark sand. Overcast natural light creates a cinematic, high-contrast look, enhancing the textures of sand, stone, and water. Photographic realism, composed using the rule of thirds, with sharp detail and a slightly low-angle perspective, balancing the beach’s raw power with a playful nod to milestone birthday exploration.

We have been friends since we both moved to the Denver area to be close to most of our kids, back in the late 2010s . Not long after I (Linda) moved into the apartment building where Rita already lived, COVID hit. Rita was one of the people I thought looked like a good ‘potential’ friends and I was looking for a walking partner so I would get out of the building and get both some exercise and some socializing in a new location. When I sent out an email to several people, Rita was the one that was also looking for a friend/walking partner. She and I started walking and talking and haven’t stopped in the 6+ years since then. We’ve spent lots of time together and have taken several car or train trips together–Grand Lake, Grand Junction, Santa Fe, Glenwood Springs.

Since we both turned 75 this past year, we decided to celebrate with a BIG trip to Iceland. We hope to see many waterfalls, hot springs, and maybe even some sheep-filled roads and wanted to share our stories and photos so family and friends can travel along with us.

We will try to post most days and would love to hear back from all of you so we know you are reading our posts. You’ll find a link later where you can drop us a message. We are doing this blog on Word Press and they do not publish your email addresses so don’t worry that it will be shared–it won’t. Most of the posting will be done by me (Linda) but, should Rita feel moved to post, we’ll let you know when we’ve changed.

This is going to be an exciting trip for us and we’re happy to have you all along!
